A trademark is something that tells the public that a good or a service comes from a single unique source. A trademark can be a word, name, design, symbol or even a mix of all three. Trademarks come in many forms, so it is important to know the type of trademark you are dealing with when branding. There are two types of marks used to identify brands, Trademarks & Service Marks.
Although the term 'trademark' is used commonly to refer to any word, design, name or symbol that represents a brand, the term 'trademark' refers to goods and services to distinguish the source of goods.
Service marks are identical to trademarks, however instead of identifying a good, service marks identify a service.
